How to compare your lists
- Paste one item per line into A and B. You can leave one list empty.
- Choose whether to ignore surrounding spaces or capitalization.
- Select “Compare lists” to find items only in A, only in B, and in both.
- Copy the result you need. Compare again after editing the input or matching options.
A quick example
List A contains Milk, Bread, Eggs, and Bread. List B contains Eggs, Milk, and Apples. Bread appears only in A, Apples only in B, and Milk and Eggs in both. Select “Try an example” to see this with one item per line.
Repeated items count once. If Bread appears twice in A and once in B, it is one common item. This tool does not compare quantities.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check line order or changes within a sentence?
This tool checks whether an item is present, not where it appears. To review edits within lines or changes to the order of a draft, use the Text Diff Checker.
How are blank lines and spaces handled?
Empty lines and lines made up entirely of whitespace are always skipped. Other surrounding spaces count by default. Ignoring them changes matching only; results keep the original spacing. Spaces inside a line and full-width versus half-width characters remain distinct.
Does it compare columns in a CSV or spreadsheet?
No. Each whole line is one item, including any commas or tabs. Copy just the column you want to compare. Leading zeros are preserved, so “001” and “1” are different items.
Is my input uploaded, saved, or shared?
No. The comparison runs in your browser, without server storage or input-bearing share links. Each box accepts 10,000 nonblank lines and 200,000 UTF-16 code units. Some characters, such as emoji, use more than one code unit.
