COMPARE TWO TEXTS

See added, removed, and changed lines

Your text stays in your browser and is not uploaded.

How to use the text diff checker

  1. Paste the earlier version into “Original text.”
  2. Paste the newer version into “Revised text.”
  3. Choose “Compare text” to see the changes.
  4. Turn on “Show unchanged lines” when you need more context.

See line changes and edits within a line

Entirely new lines are labeled “Added,” while lines that are no longer present are labeled “Removed.” When an original line and a revised line are similar, the checker pairs them as a change and highlights the edited characters.

Unchanged lines are hidden by default, so you can focus on the differences. Line numbers show where each change appears in the original and revised text.

Example

If “The meeting starts at 10:00.” changes to “The meeting starts at 10:30.”, the checker pairs the two lines and highlights the changed time instead of treating the whole sentence as unrelated text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded or saved?

No. The comparison runs in your browser, and your text is not sent to or stored on our server. On a shared device, remember that copied text may remain on the clipboard.

Does it detect spaces and tabs?

Yes. Spaces and tabs are compared as part of the text. Windows and Unix line endings are treated as the same type of line break.

How does it decide between “Changed” and “Added” or “Removed”?

When a removed line and an added line are similar, they are shown together as the before-and-after versions of a change. Lines with very different content remain separate additions and removals.
