How to add your durations
- Choose hours:minutes, minutes:seconds, or hours:minutes:seconds. The format applies to every line.
- Enter one duration per line using digits and colons.
- Select “Add durations” to get the total as hours:minutes:seconds, total minutes, and decimal hours.
- Copy the result if you need it. Recalculate after changing the input or format.
Examples you can try
In hours:minutes mode, 1:30, 0:45, and 0:50 on separate lines add up to 3:05:00 (3 hours and 5 minutes). That is 185 minutes, or approximately 3.0833 hours.
For video lengths, choose minutes:seconds. The durations 3:45, 4:30, and 2:50 total 0:11:05, or 11 minutes and 5 seconds. With an empty input, “Try an example” loads a sample for the selected format.
Frequently asked questions
Does 1:30 mean 1 hour 30 minutes or 1 minute 30 seconds?
It depends on the format you select. Hours:minutes means 1 hour 30 minutes; minutes:seconds means 1 minute 30 seconds. The tool does not guess. For hours:minutes:seconds, include all three parts, such as 1:30:00.
Can the total exceed 24 hours?
Yes. In hours:minutes mode, 23:30 plus 2:45 equals 26:15:00. Totals do not wrap at 24 hours. The maximum is 999,999 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds.
What happens to decimals, negative values, or invalid lines?
Decimal and negative inputs are not supported. Minutes and seconds need two digits from 00 to 59, except that the leading minutes in minutes:seconds may exceed 59. Invalid entries are identified by their line numbers, and no total is shown until you fix them. Blank lines are skipped.
Can I enter start and end times or subtract breaks?
No. Enter elapsed durations, not clock times. The tool does not calculate time differences, subtract breaks, or remove overlapping time. Repeated entries are each added to the total.
Is my input uploaded or saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, without server storage or input-bearing share links. Input is limited to 10,000 nonblank lines and 200,000 UTF-16 code units. Converted totals are rounded to four decimal places only after adding the durations.
